Aging is the greatest risk factor for the development of disease, but the conventional wisdom has been that the aging process is an indomitable and inevitable deterioration that would forever remain shrouded in mystery. Recent research, however, has revealed that aging is similar to every other biological process in that it’s pace is highly regulated by specific proteins, and any process that is governed by the DNA-RNA-protein axis is vulnerable to pharmacologic intervention. In other words, we may soon be “curing” aging with pharmaceuticals just like we are currently working on curing diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s and HIV/AIDS.
